Heralding the arrival of the all-new 2021 Sorento, Kia Motors America is accelerating the countdown to the New Year with a coast-to-coast tour of the U.S. The fourth generation Sorento, Kia’s newest SUV will haul the “2021” New Year’s Eve numerals from the brand’s headquarters in Irvine, CA, to Times Square in New York City for installation at the top of One Times Square. At select points along the route, National Geographic will document the Sorento’s journey as well as bring the stories from these locations to life through photography and video.

“New Year’s Eve is typically seen as a fresh start and a new beginning, and that holds true this year more than ever. With its rugged capability, the Kia Sorento will bring a little piece of the energy and fun of New Year’s Eve in Times Square to people nationwide. This will also be a reminder that we’re all in this together and that the New Year brings new opportunities and excitement,” said Russell Wager, director, marketing operations, Kia Motors America.

The road trip will culminate in Times Square, where for three days after arriving, the “2021” numerals will be part of a larger vehicle display before being installed at the top of One Times Square for the iconic New Year’s Eve Ball Drop, with Kia as the Official Countdown Sponsor. On December 31, a new creative campaign featuring the all-new Sorento will debut during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2021, on ABC. And to recognize and thank them for their hard work and dedication, Kia will host frontline workers and their families in Times Square so they can ring in the New Year. The frontline workers will be shuttled to and from the festivities by a fleet of Sorento SUVs.

With the “2021” numbers in tow, the Sorento departed Kia’s Orange County headquarters with arrival in Times Square set for December 21. Along the way, the Sorento will stop at Kia dealerships in Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

Throughout the road trip and including all activities in Times Square, Kia will adhere to CDC recommended protocols regarding face masks and social distancing guidelines.

  • Smart technology, improved ergonomics and greater feature content highlight changes to the 2020 model year

CHICAGO, February 6, 2020 — The refreshed 2020 Kia Cadenza premium sedan made its debut today at the Chicago Auto Show.  Brimming with new design elements, technology and available convenience features, the 2020 Cadenza remains true to its mission of offering luxurious interior surroundings combined with a quiet and composed ride. Significant interior enhancements for 2020 improve ergonomics and a number of newly standard Kia Drive Wise1 driver-assist technologies make time behind the wheel of the Cadenza more pleasant than ever.

“The Cadenza continues to introduce new and luxury-minded customers to the Kia brand,” said Michael Cole, president, Kia Motors America (KMA). “We recognize there are many customers who don’t want or need an SUV, but still desire a vehicle with plentiful interior room and a large trunk.  The Cadenza is the perfect choice for these people and the refreshed 2020 model is well-suited to their needs.”

When it goes on sale later this year, the 2020 Cadenza will be available in two trims: Technology and Limited, while last year’s Premium trim has been eliminated. Pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.

  • Redesigned rear bumper and trunk lid

  • Enhanced 10-watt wireless fast-charging phone charger
  • New standard Smart Key with remote Engine Start

For 2020, Drive Wise, Kia’s advanced suite of driver-assisted technology, sees a number of significant enhancements to the Cadenza. New standard features include:

  • New standard “Sensor Fusion” combines Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian/cyclist detection, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go and High Beam Assist3
  • Lane Following Assist follows visible lane markings or a preceding vehicle and provides steering inputs to maintain the vehicle’s position in the lane3
  • Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist – Rear with Lane Change Assist3
  • Highway Driving Assist uses federal highway speed limit information to automatically adjust vehicle speed to be within the posted speed limit3
  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control – Curve uses navigation data to lower the vehicle’s speed proactively before upcoming curves3
  • Safe Exit Assist alerts the driver or passenger opening their door to not exit the vehicle when approaching traffic is detected4

Powered by the same smooth 3.3-liter V6 from last year, the all-aluminum engine delivers 290 horsepower to the front wheels through an 8-speed electronically controlled Sportmatic transmission.  NVH improvements for 2020 include reinforced rear sub-frame cross members and resonator wheels (19-inch only) that help to reduce road noise entering the cabin. Redesigned shock valves reduce vibration and larger rear dampers improve rebound over rough surfaces.

Four J.D. Power APEAL Awards Marks the Most in Kia’s History

  • U.S.-built Optima and Sorento land a double victory for Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia
  • Sedona minivan earns second consecutive APEAL accolade
  • Funky Soul continues to wow customers with the perfect mix of fun and functionality

IRVINE, Calif., July 27, 2016 –
Kia Motors has earned its most-ever J.D. Power Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) awards with the Optima, Sorento, Sedona and Soul, all garnering awards in their respective segments.  The quadruple award win has moved Kia to third in the industry among Non-Premium Nameplates, according to J.D. Power, propelling the brand up from seventh place in 2015.  The announcement follows on the heels of Kia Motors recently being ranked highest in the industry in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS).

“Customers want vehicles they’re proud to drive, and Kia earning four J.D. Power APEAL awards, a record for the brand, reflects our global focus of placing our customers first,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, Kia Motors America.  “Buyers today are smarter than ever and are looking for vehicles that offer a superior combination of design, technology, safety and premium amenities. The Optima, Sorento, Sedona and Soul are prime examples of these important attributes as more people discover the new Kia and its world-class model line every day.”

The Optima and Sorento, both built at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG), beat tough competition in their respective segments, with Optima performing a substantial 25 points above the segment average.  The Sorento bested offerings from strong competition in the hotly contested midsize SUV segment.  In the Minivan category, the Sedona beat segment rivals and 2016 marks the second consecutive year Kia’s highly regarded people mover scores an APEAL award.  The Soul, a long-running favorite among consumers looking to stand out from the crowd, garnered its fourth APEAL award (2012, 2013, 2014, 2016), making it the vehicle with the most APEAL accolades in Kia’s lineup of award-winning vehicles.

The J.D. Power APEAL study measures new-vehicle owners’ overall satisfaction with their vehicles in the first 90 days of ownership.  The results are divided into 10 categories and weighted accordingly: exterior, interior, storage, audio, seats, heating and ventilation, driving dynamics, powertrain, visibility, and fuel economy.
