Today Chevrolet teased Facebook users with the above photo of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The all-new flagship sedan for the bow-tie brand began the pre-production phase of development this week as regular production of the new sedan nears.

Chevrolet has tapped GM’s Epsilon midsize sedan platform for the new Impala, and will be offering three powertrain options in the car. The base engine will be the Ecotec 2.5-liter, with GM’s familiar 2.4-liter with eAssist (light electrification) being an option. The top-end engine will be a 3.6-liter V-6. All engines will be offered exclusively with a six-speed automatic.

The 2014 Impala will begin regular production in early 2013; split between GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant and their Oshawa, Ontario plant. Pending no delays, the new Impala should be in Chevy dealers by early spring of next year.
