Kia has released proper photos of the coming 2013 Forte/Cerato and hints at the details to be found under the attractive new sheetmetal. As Kia tells us, this new Forte is plainly longer, lower and wider than the current model, and its longer wheelbase will provide more interior room, although we don’t know how it compares to the current model or the competition.

This isn’t just a new look. The 2013 Forte has an entirely new bodyshell structure and LED lamps all around. A revised engine lineup promises “class-leading fuel economy.” We should know more soon enough. For now there’s a press release posted belowto accompany the images released so far.

Kia Cerato (Forte) sedan becomes longer, lower and wider

– Sleeker profile, plus futuristic and dynamic styling
– Extended wheelbase delivers increased cabin space

(SEOUL) July 29, 2012 – The all-new version of Kia’s global best-selling model, the Cerato compact sedan (also known as Forte in some countries), is scheduled to go on sale during the first quarter of 2013 at Kia dealerships in many overseas markets.

Longer, lower and wider than the current car, with an extended wheelbase, the next generation Cerato will be manufactured with an all-new bodyshell structure.

Featuring futuristic and dynamic styling, the all-new Cerato features a sleeker profile, LED front and rear lamps and a chrome-finished beltline.

All-new Cerato, to be called ‘K3’ in Kia’s home market of South Korea, will also boast improved quality, upgraded equipment, a more spacious cabin and a revised engine line-up that delivers class-leading fuel economy.

After going on sale in Korea later this year, the all-new Cerato sedan will appear at Kia dealerships in many overseas markets during the first quarter of 2013.

Each year consumer researcher JD Power conducts studies to determine the satisfaction level of vehicle owners. The study is aptly named Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout or APEAL for short. This year’s study showed a trend of increasing satisfaction among the increasing amount of people downsizing to smaller vehicles and two small Chevrolet products took top honors.According to the study’s findings, owners of the new Chevrolet Sonic are the most satisfied with their purchase in the sub-compact car segment. Likewise, owners of Chevrolet’s extended-range Volt are the happiest within the compact car segment. The results mean that the bow-tie brand took a clean-sweep of the largest small car segments – no small feat for a brand that historically lacked in both segments.Additionally, JD Power found that Chevrolet Avalanche owners are among the most satisfied with their purchase in the truck segment. The Avalanche has consistently been ranked high in owner satisfaction surveys, so the results are not terribly shocking.

As we reported in May, the Kia Sedona minivan will skip the 2013 model year while its replacement is readied for market. A Kia spokesman tells Edmunds Inside Line that the company still considers the minivan segment important and that the current Sedona should continue to be available through 2012.

Though not confirmed, Inside Line expects the 2014 Sedona to take its overall minivan/crossover shape from Kia’s KV7 concept car first seen at the 2011 North American International Auto Show. That backs up what we theorized last January in Detroit. Kia’s VP of marketing hinted to us then that the KV7 wasn’t purely a styling exercise and that could one day inspire a production vehicle. Don’t, however, hold out for the concept’s fantastical gullwing doors, swiveling seats, LED instrument panel or LED headlights.

“With the KV7 what we see coming eventually is materials on the vehicle that we’d like to see incorporated,” Michael Sprague, Kia’s marketing VP told us then. “Or getting a Kia that’s Wi-Fi enabled, it’s just a question of how soon.”

Look for the new Sedona to bow sometime in 2013.
