2020 Silverado 1500 Introduces Three New Value Packages

The 2020 Silverado 1500 delivers various rolling updates and changes to the all-new model introduced in 2019. But one of the changes not yet announced is the addition of three new “value” packages for the WT (Work Truck), LT and RST trim levels.

Pricing information for these three packages is currently unknown, but considering the name in play here, we would expect them to be rather accessible. The packages are unique to each of the three trim levels listed, and include some of the more popular options bundled together into a single package.

We’ve listed the features of each package below, with all relevant RPO codes in parentheses.

WT Value Package

Let’s start with the base-model 2020 Silverado 1500 WT, which now offers the WT Value Package (PEB), which bundles together two popular packages, including:

  • WT Convenience Package (PCV):
    • Remote Keyless Entry
    • EZ Lift power lock and release tailgate
    • Tinted windows
    • Rear-window defogger
    • Cruise control
    • Power mirrors
    • Power windows, express up/down driver, power windows, express down passenger and power door locks on Regular Cab models
  • Trailering Package (Z82):
    • Trailer hitch with 7-pin and 4-pin connectors
    • Hitch Guidance

The WT Value Package (PEB) is not available with the pickup bed delete (ZW9) option.

LT Value Package

Up next, we have the 2020 Silverado 1500 LT Value Package (PCQ), which includes:

  • Remote Start Package (B59):
    • Remote Start
    • Content theft alarm
    • Rear-window defogger
  • Trailering Package (Z82)
    • Trailer hitch with 7-pin and 4-pin connectors
      Hitch Guidance
  • 18-inch Bright Silver painted aluminum wheels (PZX)
  • 265/65R18SL all-terrain blackwall tires (XCK)
  • All-weather floor liners (RIA, LPO)

The LT Value Package (PCQ) includes the turbocharged 2.7L four-cylinder engine (L3B) and can not be optioned with the Convenience Package (PCL), All Star Edition (PDU), Texas Edition (PDA), Z71 Off-Road and Protection Package (PDZ), Z71 Off-Road Package (Z71), Max Trailering Package (NHT), and rubberized vinyl flooring (BG9).

Also note that the 18-inch Bright Silver painted aluminum wheels (PZX) included with the LT Value Package (PCQ) can be upgraded to 20-inch aluminum wheels with Argent metallic pockets (RD4), or any other LPO wheel option.

RST Value Package

Finally, there’s the 2020 Silverado 1500 RST Value Package (PCR), which includes:

  • Trailering Package (Z82):
    • Trailer hitch with 7-pin and 4-pin connectors
      Hitch Guidance
  • 20-inch aluminum wheels with Argent metallic pockets (RD4)
  • 275/60R20 all-terrain blackwall tires (QAE)
  • All-weather floor liners (RIA, LPO)

Besides the addition of these three new value packages, the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 also receives the following changes and updates:

  • Addition of new 10-speed automatic transmission with the 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine as standard on the LT Trail Boss and available on the High Country, replacing the 8-speed automatic transmission
  • Addition of 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine offered on the Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss and RST trim levels
  • Launch of the new turbo-diesel 3.0L I6 LM2 turbo-diesel Duramax engine after emissions-related delays
  • Addition of new technologies, including new trailering features and Adaptive Cruise Control

Is There Going To Be A New Kia Borrego?

From: https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1124550_kia-reveals-new-mohave-is-a-borrego-coming-too

Kia on Wednesday revealed a redesigned Mohave, a mid-size SUV whose predecessor was briefly sold in the United States late last decade as the Borrego.

There isn’t any indication that the redesigned Mohave is destined for local sale, but given the consumer trend toward crossovers and SUVs we wouldn’t be surprised if the vehicle ends up here as a little brother to the Telluride.

The six-lug wheel design suggests more ruggedness and off-road capability than your typical Kia, something which could set this SUV apart from the family-oriented Telluride. There are also chunky fog lights and fixed running boards, which once again suggest a vehicle for active lifestyles.

Underpinning the redesigned Mohave is thought to be an updated version of the body-on-frame platform found in the outgoing model. It enables rear- and four-wheel-drive configurations.

A “V6 3.0” badge on the tailgate suggests the vehicle will be offered with the 3.0-liter diesel fitted to the outgoing model. The outgoing model’s 3.8-liter V-6 will also likely be offered, though don’t count on its 4.6-liter V-8 being offered too.

Unfortunately, Kia hasn’t released any information on its redesigned Mohave. We’ll bring you an update as soon as more is known.

Mid Engine Chevrolet Corvette C8 Spy Shots

From: https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1096198_2020-chevrolet-corvette-c8-spy-shots-and-video

Looking at the new shots and video of prototypes, we see can see that the C8 will be similar in size to the C7 but with a lower, wider stance. It won’t get vertical-lifting doors of many exotics, though it looks like there will be a short front overhang. Flanking the engine bay is a pair of chunky buttresses and we’re told designers will add a sheet of glass in the center to show off the engine (it’s concealed here). One of the biggest challenges is thought to be heat management. We can also see a rear-facing camera that feeds images to a digital rearview mirror inside (there’s also a digital instrument cluster) and what also looks to be dual-caliper brakes at the rear.

The new Corvette won’t be a pricey limited edition supercar like the modern Ford GT. We hear the basis for the car’s mid-engine platform is the C7’s aluminum spaceframe structure rather than a completely new design. As for powertrains, the base model shown here should come with the C7 Corvette Stingray’s 6.2-liter V-8 delivering about 500 horsepower. Later, a 5.5-liter V-8 with a flat-plane crank and DOHC design is expected to be dropped in, complete with about 600 hp. Then, a twin-turbocharging option for this engine could surface, seeing output rise to 800 hp.

But wait, there’s more. At the top of the heap is expected to sit a hybrid—yes, a hybrid Corvette—powertrain adding an electric motor to the front axle and utilizing the twin-turbo V-8 for the rear axle to generate a hypercar-rivaling 1,000 hp.

By now you’re probably wondering why GM would rock the boat with such a dramatic change to the Corvette formula. Apparently the front engine, rear-wheel-drive layout is reaching its limits. Also, the Alpha-based Camaro is already snapping at the heels of its big brother.

There’s also a bit of mid-engine Corvette history. Corvette father Zora Arkus-Duntov was a huge fan of the layout, especially for motorsports. He helped GM build a number of mid-engine concepts for testing purposes, the original being the first CERV (Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle) concept rolled out in 1960. Don’t be surprised if a Corvette ZR1 successor is named after him, since we know GM has a trademark for Zora.

Going mid-engine won’t be the only major change for the C8: another will be price. While the base C7 starts close to $60,000, the new price of entry is thought to be rising to approximately $80,000. The higher price can be justified by the more exotic layout, plus it provides a nice buffer with the Camaro. The change will also help the C8 become a semi-exotic halo model for Chevrolet worldwide, similar to what the GT-R is for Nissan and the NSX is to Acura and Honda. It will also make the C8 a better performer on the racetrack.

Production will take place at the Corvette’s home in Bowling Green, Kentucky. GM has spent over $700 million in upgrades to the plant in preparation for the new car.

Unfortunately, the news of the mid-engine Corvette means the C7 was the nameplate’s last with a front-mounted engine. The final C7, a black Z06, was sold for $2.7 million at a charity auction in June.
