Kia’s Largest and Most Refined SUV Confirmed for U.S. with Production in West Point, GA1

  • Influenced by fashion designer Brandon Maxwell’s latest Texas-inspired runway collection, a ranch-ready Telluride with saddle-like leather accents debuted at New York Fashion Week2
  • Penned at Kia’s U.S. design studio, the Telluride production model is scheduled to arrive in showrooms in early 2019.
  • Together with Maxwell, Kia is donating substantial funding to the public school system of Marfa, Texas, where Maxwell designed his SS’19 collection

IRVINE, Calif., September 8, 2018 – Breaking new ground, a bespoke version of Kia Motors America’s largest and most refined SUV – the all-new 2020 Telluride – made its first public appearance today at fashion designer Brandon Maxwell’s New York Fashion Week show. Created by Kia’s U.S. design studio in Irvine, California, the customized Telluride that appeared on the runway drew influence from Maxwell’s inspiration for the Spring Summer 2019 collection: Texas.

“Telluride summits Kia’s SUV lineup and forged a surprising new path with its runway debut at New York Fashion Week,” said Saad Chehab, vice president of marketing communications, Kia Motors America. “Only a brand as forward-thinking as Kia could collaborate with Brandon Maxwell to launch the Telluride ahead of its official debut at the North American International Auto Show in January.”

The eight passenger Telluride production model – which will be assembled at Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia – will provide a new, V6-powered option that is several inches longer and wider than Kia’s award-winning, seven passenger Sorento midsize SUV.

For Brandon Maxwell, the combination of childhood nostalgia and an exclusive preview of Kia’s largest and most refined SUV provided an opportunity to give back to the Marfa, Texas, community.

“My Mom drove me to school in East Texas in a Kia Sedona, and my adoration for the brand runs deep,” said Maxwell. “When I left Marfa, Texas, where I designed my SS’19 collection, I started talking with Kia. I wanted a partner who could help fill a need in Marfa’s public school system and Kia was looking to create a unique integration for their new Telluride. It was a natural fit as Kia has a long history of philanthropic initiatives that support education. Kia is not just funding necessary technological purchases and educational programming to give the children of Marfa the quality education they deserve, but also providing a vehicle for local teachers’ use. I am honored to collaborate with Kia Motors.”

The one-of-a-kind Telluride featured in the show provides a thought-provoking glimpse into the creative process that takes place when designers in separate industries collaborate. This specially tailored Telluride includes several nods to Maxwell’s Texas roots, including natural wood interior trim and saddle-inspired double-stitched leather adornments on the dash, door panels and grab handles. Similar leather details cover the outside rearview mirrors and door handles. Outside, the Telluride’s deep green paint reflects the color of the concept vehicle that debuted in Detroit two years ago. Custom front and rear bumpers, skidplates and sidestep sills exude a ranch-ready look that’s backed up with a hidden winch and a snorkel for deep-river fording. Burly 265/50R-20 off-road tires wrap around flat-black alloy wheels and the spare tire has been custom mounted to the rear hatch, which opens to a metal- and leather-trimmed cargo area. A custom wood and aluminum roof rack with a beautiful custom leather tow strap tongue provide the perfect finishing touches.

Have You Met The New 2019 Silverado?

From: https://media.chevrolet.com/media/us/en/chevrolet/home.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2018/jun/0628-silverado-pricing.html

DETROIT — Today, Chevrolet announced that the 2019 Silverado LT will be larger, more capable, more fuel efficient and feature a starting at MSRP that is up to $700 less than the outgoing model.

“For more than 100 years, Chevrolet has developed a reputation for building trucks that offer incredible performance, capability and value,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet. “The next-gen Silverado continues that tradition — offering more interior and cargo room, higher towing and payload capabilities and a lower starting at MSRP on our highest volume model.”

The 2019 Silverado LT crew cab has a starting at MSRP $700 less than today’s truck, even with new standard equipment including an all-new 2.7L Turbo engine with 22 percent more torque than the 4.3L V-6 it replaces, an eight-speed automatic transmission, stop-start technology and active aero shutters.

The upscale and comprehensively equipped High Country also introduces a host of new standard equipment, including the 5.3L V-8 with new Dynamic Fuel Management, push-button start, stop-start technology, active aero shutters, Lane Change Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Advanced Trailering System, enhanced LED exterior lighting, dual exhaust outlets and class-exclusive power up/down tailgate — and a starting at MSRP increase of only $1,000.

Other available equipment introduced on the 2019 Silverado includes:

  • Z71 Off-road Equipment Package is now available on all models (and standard on Trail Boss models, which also feature a factory-installed 2-inch lifted suspension, Rancho™ monotube shocks and Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac all-terrain tires). The Z71 package includes:
  • Off-road tuned Rancho™ twin-tube shocks.
  • Electronic hill descent control.
  • Two-speed transfer case and automatic locking rear differential.
  • Skid plates for engine oil pan and transfer-case protection.
  • Heavy-duty air filter.
  • 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.
  • Dual exhaust outlets for models equipped with V-8 engines.
  • Advanced, active-safety features, including:
  • Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert*.
  • Front and Rear Park Assist*.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert*.
  • Forward Collision Alert* and Following Distance Indicator*.
  • Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking*.
  • Front Pedestrian Braking*.
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning*.
  • Safety Alert Seat*.
  • IntelliBeam headlamps, high-beam assist.
  • Advanced technology features, including:
  • GM-exclusive, 3 x 7-inch configurable color head-up display.
  • 8-inch configurable driver information center.
  • Surround Vision*.
  • Rear Camera Mirror*

The next-gen Silverado is also larger than the outgoing model in virtually every dimension. For example, the Silverado crew cab, short box has 1.2 inches more total width, 1.5 inches more total height, 1.7 inches more total length and 3.9 inches more wheelbase.

As a result, the Silverado offers an additional 3 inches of cab length for all configurations, and up to 4 cubic feet more interior volume. It also offers the largest cargo volume of any full-size truck in short-bed, standard-bed and long-bed models. In fact, at 62.9 cubic feet, the Silverado short bed offers more cargo volume than the standard bed of the Ford F-150.

Despite the larger footprint, the Silverado is up to 450 pounds lighter than the outgoing truck (crew cab, short-bed models with the 5.3L V-8 and Max Towing Package), due to advanced manufacturing and the use of mixed materials.

The 2019 Silverado lineup also offers more choices than ever, including six engine/transmission combinations that give customers different combinations of performance, efficiency and value, as well as increased towing and payload capabilities:

  • Crew cab Silverado models increase in payload up to 14 percent, or 340 pounds.
  • The 4.3L V-6 now offer a maximum of 8,000 pounds towing, up 400 pounds (regular cab, rear-wheel-drive models).
  • The 5.3L V-8 with Max Towing Package now offers a maximum of 11,600 pounds towing, up 400 pounds (double-cab, rear-wheel-drive models).
  • For 2019, the 6.2L V-8 is now exclusively offered with four-wheel drive. Equipped with the Max Towing Package, it now delivers a maximum of 12,200 pounds towing, up 500 pounds from a similarly equipped 2018 model (double-cab, four-wheel-drive models).

The first engines to be produced will be the 5.3L V-8 equipped with an eight-speed automatic, and the 6.2L V-8 equipped with a 10-speed automatic. Both offer more than 5 percent improvement in city fuel economy, for an improvement of 1 mile per gallon based on EPA estimates.

Models equipped with the 5.3L V-8 and rear-wheel drive offer an EPA-estimated 17 miles per gallon city, 23 highway and 19 combined. Models equipped with four-wheel drive and the 6.2L V-8 offer an EPA-estimated 16 miles per gallon city, 20 highway and 17 combined.

EPA estimates for the other engines, including the all-new 2.7L Turbo and all-new Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel, are not yet available. However, both engines are expected to offer customers even greater fuel efficiency choices.

2019 Camaro ZL1: Minimal Exterior Changes

From: https://www.autoblog.com/2018/07/12/2019-chevy-camaro-zl1-spy-photos

The 2019 Chevy Camaro is getting a pretty radical facelift for the new model year. Or at least the V8 SS is, with its enormous new grille. The four-cylinder and V6 models are a bit more conservative. But apparently Chevy is playing things even safer with the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 based on the spy shots above.

Up front, the new ZL1 is unchanged. So too are the sides. While it would have been interesting to see something a little fresher up front, this is surely a good thing for those who may have feared another rendition of the controversial SS fascia.

The main changes are in the tail. As with the rest of the 2019 Camaro lineup, the ZL1 gets much larger taillights featuring a quartet of illuminated rings. These taillights offer more depth and detailing than those on the outgoing model. The bumper is also changed to match the others with a simplified lip under the taillights and a redesigned license plate section. The rear wing and diffuser appear to be same as the old one, though.

Pricing and availability for the mainstream Camaros have yet to be announced, so exactly when the new ZL1 will show up isn’t clear. We would suspect it would arrive not long after, or even at the same time, as the rest of Camaro line. We’re also not expecting any powertrain changes, so look for the same 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque as the last one coupled to either a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.
