Employee Spotlight: Alicia Cruz

Here we are again, sitting down with one of our team members to learn more about them. We love learning about our team! This month we are talking to Alicia Cruz, a service, parts counter person at our Chevrolet location. Alicia has been with the company for over 3 years now. We sat down and gave Amy our usual “spotlight” questions and here is what we learned…

VanDevere: Hi Alicia, thank you for taking the time to sit with us. We will start off easy… What is the best thing about your job?

Alicia: The people I work with are like minded

VDV: It is great to work with a team that shares the same values. The VanDevere core values are a big part of how we treat our customers and each other. What is the best thing about VanDevere?

Alicia: The Family philosophy and I love that everyone gets their hands dirty.

VDV: It truly is like one big happy family! Everyone puts in a lot of time and effort to accomplish goals. Like you said, no one is afraid to get their hands dirty and help each other out. In three words, how would you best describe VanDevere?

Alicia: Caring, Family, Opportunity

VDV: All very true! What do you like to do when you are not at work?

Alicia: Spend time with family, play with puppies, sit on the deck, and listen to music

VDV: Nothing better than family, dogs and relaxing! What inspires you?

Alicia: Positive energy and inclusion

VDV: That is a great attitude to have. Fill in the blank: I once met….

Alicia: Michael Stanley! I worked with his daughter and had dinner at his house.

VDV: How cool! What a great opportunity to meet a local Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer/songwriter. Where is your favorite place to travel?

Alicia: To fly! Instead of reading or watching about places, I could visit them.

VDV: Agreed! You would be able to enjoy so many more amazing things and get there with ease. Where would be your first place you would like to travel?

Alicia: Finger Lakes, New York! Hiking in Watkins Glen, wineries

VDV: Awesome! You even would be able to go try new restaurants and food because of the ease of flying there. Now, do you have a favorite place to eat?

Alicia: Shogun, Sake & Sushi

Employee Spotlight: Jen Sheldon

Here we are again, sitting down with one of our team members to learn more about them. We love learning about our team! This month we are talking to Jen Sheldon, a Service Advisor at our Chevrolet location. Jen has been with the company for over 4 years now. We sat down and gave Jen our usual “spotlight” questions and here is what we learned!

VanDevere: Hi Jen, thank you for taking the time to sit with us. We will start off easy… What is the best thing about your job?

Jen: Helping customers everyday!

VDV: It is always a great feeling to help others. What is the best thing about VanDevere?

Jen: The fun atmosphere

VDV: I agree, this bunch is awesome! We always help each other out and have so many team events! What are 3 words you would use to describe VanDevere?

Jen: Fun, Honest, Family!

VDV: These are all so very true. I mostly appreciate the family atmosphere. I also think it is important to note that it is a part of VanDevere’s core values. What do you like to do when you are not at work?

Jen: I love going to my kid’s sports events and being with my granddaughter. My other hobby would include doing crossfit.

VDV: Family is so important. Sounds like you have a great one and VanDevere is glad to have you be a part of this family too! I have always wanted to try crossfit as well! What inspires you the most?

Jen: My family and knowing that everything I do is to take care of them.

VDV: That is a great motivator! Family is truly everything and inspires me to push myself at work. Speaking of inspiring people, fill in the blank, once I met….

VDV: How cool! It is always exciting to meet someone who is famous. That would be
super cool, which reminds me… if you could pick one superpower, what would it be?

Jen: To fly so I could save on gas!

VDV: I think we all wish we could fly for that reason! Besides gas it would also save time! What is your favorite travel spot?

Jen: Charleston, South Carolina

VDV: One of my favorite places as well! I have a family that lives down there and it is truly a beautiful city with tons of history and good food! Now, do you have a favorite place to eat?

Jen: Fat Heads Brewery

Employee Spotlight: Vong Sanouvong

Here we are again, sitting down with one of our team members to learn more about them. We love learning about our team! This month we are talking to Vong Sanouvong, a reconditioning technician at our Chevrolet location. Vong has been with the company for 13 years now. We sat down and gave Vong our normal “spotlight” questions and here is what we learned!

VanDevere: Hi Vong, thank you for taking the time to sit with us. We will start off easy… What is the best thing about your job?

Vong: I would say the comradery of the team. We always have each other’s backs.

VDV: That’s great! We do have such a great team of coworkers. Also, fun activities like holiday contests and dressing up for Halloween. What are 3 words you would use to describe VanDevere?

Vong: Family. Oriented. Company.

VDV: Love to see how much the company feels like home! We also help so many Akron non profit organizations which really makes it feel like home. What do you like to do when you are not at work?

Vong: Spending time with my family is always a great way to spend my time. I also attend fishing tournaments!

VDV: There is nothing better than family! It is amazing that you do Fishing tournaments too. How did you get started with pro fishing tournaments? Do you usually travel for these events?

Vong: I got started in 2011 and loved everything about fishing so I decided to see if I could take it a step further and join tournaments. I get to travel instate and outside of

Ohio too. I am actually going to be participating in the Bass World Championship at Lake Murray South Carolina. I will be able to represent my home country of Laos.

VDV: This is amazing! Good luck in South Carolina’s tournament. We hope to be able to see you on TV! Who/What inspired you to do this?

Vong: A man named Jacob Wheeler! He is the number one fish angler in the world! He is definitely a world class fisherman.

VDV: It is great to have such an amazing role model. I once met ____________!

Vong: I was actually able to meet Jacob Wheeler!

VDV: That is Crazy! What a great experience to meet the person that got you into the sport. Speaking of superhuman fisherman players, if you could pick one superpower, what would it be?

Vong: Mind Reading for sure.

VDV: Who would be the first person you would utilize your superpower on?

Vong: I would read my wife’s mind!

VDV: What a great answer. Would also love to be able to read people’s minds. Now, locally, do you have a favorite place to eat or visit in your city?

Vong: I love to go to Fisherman Central. I find a lot of bait and tackle items there

VDV: Great place to be for a fisherman! Last question, since we are in the car business, what is your dream car?

Vong: I would love a brand new 2023 Toyota Tundra TRD!

VDV: That is great for all your fisherman needs! Especially since it will be able to carry your boat with ease. A big thank you to you, Vong, for taking the time to talk with us today.
